Saturday, Dec. 24

Janus Stakes – Gulfstream Park

Win: Carotari

This six-year gelding was bred in Kentucky and he raced for William Branch. Carotari is trained by Brian Lynch and ridden by jockey Luis Saez. He will break at the No. 14 post in the Janus after winning the Laurel Dash at Pimlico Race Course on Sept. 24. He covered the five miles on turf in 0:56.2 over Comedy Town and Matta.

Sired by Artie Schiller, he won four of the last six races from the fall of 2021. That winning streak includes the Janus Stakes last year at Gulfstream. Carotari is a natural sprinter on turf from 5 to 5 ½ furlongs over his extended time on the track.

Place: Nothing Better

The Kentucky-bred five-year gelding raced since 2020 for Colt Neck Stables, LLC. Trained by Jorge Duarte Jr., he is set at No. 5 with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. getting the ride. Nothing Better placed first in the Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship his last time out in late November. He won the six-furlong race in 1:07.91 over Anaconda and Thin White Duke.

As a son of Munnings, Nothing Better has finished first, second or third in his last nine races since July 25 of 2021. He has excelled at five to six furlongs on turf in his four years of competitive racing.

Show: Feast

A contender at high odds, Feast is going off that No. 7 with Jose Ferrer as his jockey. Trained by Doug O’Neill, he has been first in five of his last seven races since May 15 of this year. Feast won his last time out on Dec. 8 at Gulfstream in a five-furlong turf race over No Angel and Uncle B in 0:56.23.

The five-year colt is a son of Twirling Candy and his siblings are Ride The Rails and Danzing Crown. Feast has sprinted on dirt and turf in his four-year campaign.
