NFL Week 4 Home Underdogs to Bet On

The 2016 NFL regular season is only three weeks old and it has already been an extremely profitable year for anyone consistently betting on home underdogs covering against the spread. According to the current NFL betting trends at Covers.com, home underdogs have won 53.8 percent of their games straight-up and when you add in the closing spread that winning percentage jumps up to 61.5 percent. Underdogs in general have covered in close to 60 percent of their games so the big question heading into Week 4 is will these winning trends continue or is it finally time for the favorites to start living up to expectations?

As part of a new series for PayPerHeadGuide.com, I will be putting together my top NFL two-team parlay for each week's games and this time around I found a pair of home underdogs that have a great chance to win their game this Sunday outright. Check out the link below for my two NFL picks that come together perfectly to form this week's parlay play.

ACC Pick of the Week: Pitt at North Carolina

One of the top matchups in the ACC this Saturday when it comes to offensive firepower sends Pittsburgh to Chapel Hill to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in a 3:30 p.m. (ET) start at Kenan Stadium. BetAnySports has listed the Tar Heels as seven-point favorites and the betting line for the total in this Coastal Division tilt has been set at 67.5 points.

Both teams have already suffered a tough loss this season outside the conference with Pitt falling to Oklahoma State 45-38 last week in a wild one and the Tar Heels losing to Georgia 33-24 on opening day. The winner of this matchup will take an early edge in the race to win the Coastal Division this season, which figures to be a three-way battle between these two teams and Miami.

The Panthers open play in the ACC with an offense that has averaged 36 points over its first three games. This potent scoring attack has been fueled by a run game that is racking up an average of 239 yards a game. North Carolina is scoring an average of 42.7 points a game and it is getting done through the air with quarterback Mitch Trubisky throwing for 853 yards and five touchdowns in his first three games. Both teams have had their issues on the other side of the ball so look for an active scoreboard this Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.

Each and every week of the college football season I will release my ACC Pick of the Week for SportsBettingStats.com. Below is a link to my full preview and "best bet" pick for this week's game.

Free NFL Thursday Night Football Picks- Houston at New England

It is pretty common for perception and reality to be at opposite ends of the spectrum during the first few weeks of any new NFL season. Case in point was my free pick for last Thursday night's AFC East clash between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.

Based on what I saw from both of these teams on offense in Week 1, I predicted a low-scoring battle that would easily stay UNDER an already low total line of 40.5 points. The Jets had just come up short in a 23-22 loss to Cincinnati with less than 190 yards of passing offense while the Bills could only manage seven points in a Week 1 loss to Baltimore. Following a sluggish first quarter in last Thursday night's matchup in which the Bills led New York 7-6, both teams started lighting up the scoreboard to end the game with combined 68 points. So much for early perceptions when it comes to predicting future results.

Fast forward to this Thursday's Houston at New England game and the early perception was that the Patriots could be in big trouble against the 2-0 Texans with their third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett slated to get the start. It is pretty obvious that the betting public is not buying into this line of thought with the game now listed as a PICK after Houston opened as a 2.5-point favorite on the road when the betting line was first released last Sunday night at BetAnySports.

New England getting points at home was a gift no matter who is under center at quarterback so that is why I am so glad that I locked in on this game early in the week to get those 2.5 points. Including the playoffs, the Patriots come into this game with a 27-2 straight-up record in their last 29 games played in the friendly confines of Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

Saturday Showdown in the ACC-Florida State vs. Louisville

One of the biggest head-to-head matchups on Saturday's college football slate is an ACC tilt between the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles and the No. 10 Louisville Cardinals. BetAnySports has the Seminoles listed as slight one-point favorites on the road and the betting line for the total has been set at 68. Both teams have gotten off to strong starts at 2-0 straight-up and the winner of Saturday's conference clash would have to be considered one of the frontrunners to earn a spot in this season's College Football Playoff.

I have already gone with Louisville twice this year as a "best bet" pick on BetAnySports' closing betting line for one of my weekly ACC game previews for SportsBettingStats.com, but this will be a much tougher test than both Charlotte and Syracuse proved to be in the Cardinals' first two games as heavy favorites. Given the firepower with both of the offenses in this battle between Top 10 teams, the one thing that I am confident about is each team's ability to put points on the board. As part of my weekly ACC "Game of the Week" for SportsBettingStats.com below is a link to my complete preview and pick for Saturday's ACC clash.

NFL Free Thursday Night Football Picks- New York (Jets) at Buffalo

Week 2 of the NFL regular season gets underway this Thursday night with a AFC East clash between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills at New Era Stadium. Both teams are coming off a tough opening day loss and looking to avoid a 0-2 start right our of the gate. BetAnySports now has the Jets listed as slight one-point road favorites after Buffalo opened as 2.5-point favorites at home.

That is a pretty big shift for two teams that matchup rather well with one another on both sides of the ball so you have to wonder if there is some serious sharp money on New York. My lean is still towards the Bills, especially since they are now getting the point at home. They have won the last five meetings in this division rivalry both straight-up and against the spread and they have a 4-1 edge ATS in their last five home games against the Jets. However, given what I saw from both teams in Week 1 the better play in this one could actually be on the 40.5-point total line at BetAnySports.

NFL Free Sunday Night Football Picks- New England at Arizona

A new season of Sunday Night Football kicks things off with an intriguing interconference showdown between the New England Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals. Both of these teams are considered to be Super Bowl contenders this year after winning a combined 25 games in the 2015 regular season. They each came up short in the conference title game so the pressure has been dialed up to take that next step this year.

The Patriots begin the new season a bit hamstrung with their starting quarterback Tom Brady serving a four-game league suspension and one of their top weapons on offense tight end Rob Gronkowski actually out with a hamstring injury so it is easy to see why they are seven-point underdogs on the road according to BetAnySports.com. The betting line for the total in this game has been set at 45. The Cardinals come into this game looking to pick up where they left on on offense as the No. 1 ranked unit in the league in scoring. Veteran quarterback Carson Palmer is back to lead the passing attack and Chris Johnson remains the lead back running the ball.

I will be covering Sunday Night Football all season long for SportsBettingStats.com so please check out the link below for my full preview and pick for this game.

Battle at Bristol Preview & Free Betting Pick

College football meets NASCAR this Saturday afternoon with the Battle at Bristol showdown between the ACC's Virginia Tech Hokies and the SEC's No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers in a border war at Bristol Motor Speedway. This unique sporting event is expected to draw 150,000 fans making it the largest college football crowd ever. Michigan held the previous record at 115,109 for an early September game against Notre Dame in 2013.

Both of these teams opened the new season with a straight-up win as heavy favorite, but they did not come close to covering the spread. Virginia Tech took care of Division IAA Liberty 36-13 in a relatively easy fashion, but the closing betting line at BetAnySports was a hefty 32 points. Tennessee began the season as the ninth-ranked team in the nation in the AP's initial Top 25, but it needed overtime to squeeze past Appalachian State 20-13 as a 21.5-point home favorite at BetAnySports.

The current betting line for this game has the Volunteers listed as 11.5-point favorites with the total set at 54.5. As part of my season-long series covering the ACC for SportsBettingStats.com, I have dug deep into the stats, facts and betting trends for this matchup to come up with my "best bet" pick. Check out the link below for my full preview of this history-making game.
