Longshot Set to Win Indy 500

I cover NASCAR's Sprint Cup series for Cappers Picks and you can find this week's picks for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 in the NASCAR section on the site. As an added task this week they asked me to come up with my picks for Sunday's Indy 500, which is the biggest race of the year in IndyCar racing. This year's event offers a special twist since it is the 100th running of this storied race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is commonly referred to as the Brickyard.

Handicapping IndyCar racing is somewhat different than NASCAR in the sense that a driver's starting position is far more important in open-wheeled racing than racing stock cars. Winning the pole position for a race like the Indy 500 almost guarantees that the driver of that car will be favored to win. It also makes picking longshots an almost guaranteed losing proposition given just how hard it is to beat the top favorites on a very tight track. That being said, I am still going out on a limb this Sunday with a driver at 20/1 odds as my winner. To find out who I think can upset the field in the 100th running of the Indy 500 just follow the link below to my compete race preview on Cappers Picks.
