Led by Churchill Downs, nine Kentucky retail sportsbooks are legally taking bets across the state. Opening Sept. 7, Kentucky is the fourth state this year to go live with retail sports betting. Online sportsbooks will follow suit at the end of September.
Governor Andy Beshear placed the first ceremonial wager at Churchill Downs Race & Sport Book last Thursday, only six months after he signed House Bill 551 into law. Seven Kentucky horse racing tracks can partner with three online sportsbook operators. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook are busy dealing out free bonus bets before going online on Sept. 28.
The nine retail books are Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, Oak Grove, Turfway Park, The Red Mile, Newport Racing & Gaming, Derby City Gaming & Hotel and the Mint Gaming Hall at Cumberland Run in Corbin and Williamsburg.
