One of the best ways to supplement your NFL betting strategy is to test your handicapping skills betting a few special player props released each week by select online sports books such as TopBet. This week's added betting options cover Los Angeles Chargers' running back Melvin Gordon scoring a touchdown in Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The other special player prop has odds on whether Aaron Rodgers or Matthew Stafford will throw the first touchdown pass in Monday night's crucial NFC North showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
As part of my weekly coverage of the NFL for the popular sports betting site Sports Betting Stats, I took a closer look at each of these props to find the best value in the betting odds. The link below takes you to these picks in a post that was previously published on that site.

Eagles at Vikings NFL Week 6 Betting Pick
This is the time of the NFL season when the true contenders start to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. While the New England Patriots are once again the cream of the crop in the AFC with Kansas City also near the top of the list, the NFC has turned into a wide-open affair with as many as five or six teams aiming for the top spot in this conference.
Two of those NFC teams in the thick of things meet this Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX with the 3-2 Philadelphia Eagles on the road as three-point underdogs against the 3-2 Minnesota Vikings. The total for this matchup has been set at 44 points.
The Eagles struggled to a 1-2 straight-up start while failing to cover against the spread in all three games. Following a crucial road upset against Green Bay, they were able to rise above .500 with last Sunday's lopsided romp over the New York Jets. Minnesota is also off to a 3-2 start both SU and ATS. The three wins came against Atlanta and Oakland at home ahead of last Sunday's 28-10 victory against the New York Jets. Both losses were on the road to Green Bay and Chicago.
The winner of Sunday's clash will elevate their status as a legitimate contender to win the NFC while the loser will make their path to the playoffs all the more harder.
This game will feature a head-to-head matchup between the Eagles' Carson Wentz and the Vikings' Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Wentz is slowly returning to the form that had him in contention to win league MVP honors in the 2017 season. Cousins is well down the list through five starts with a quarterback rating of just 36.3. He also has a very questionable track record against the Eagles when he was the starter for Washington. The current playing form of each signal caller gives Philadelphia a huge edge in this game.
You would have to give the slight edge to Minnesota on defense as the fifth-ranked team in the NFL in total yards allowed. While the Eagles are farther down the list in that category, this unit is coming off its best game of the season. Granted, it was against the Jets but that momentum should carry over to Sunday's game.
This is the kind of separation game that could have a big impact on each team's postseason plans further down the road. Each team has two conference losses and Minnesota has already lost two games against NFC North opponents.
My top play in this one is Philadelphia on the moneyline at +150 with America's Bookie online sportsbook.

CFL Week 17 Betting Guide & Free Picks
The NFL regular season kicks off the second quarter of the 16-game schedule this week while football north of the border in the CFL is in the thick of the playoff race heading into Week 17. Four of the six available spots have already been claimed with Hamilton closing in on the East Division title while three teams continue their battle for the top spot in the West. Montreal is trying to lock down a postseason birth for the first time since 2014 and British Columbia is trying to keep its faint playoff hopes alive by extending its current three-game winning streak.
The CFL is filled with story lines at this point of the season and it is also filled some high-valued betting options as a perfect supplement to your overall football betting strategy. Whether you are betting the spread, total or moneyline odds, you can always turn to America's Bookie as one of the top-rated online sportsbooks catering to US bettors.

Virginia @ Notre Dame Free Betting Pick
One of the top matchups on this Saturday's college football schedule is a head-to-head battle between nationally ranked teams with the No. 18 Virginia Cavaliers squaring off against the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame opened as an 11-point home favorite and that spread has been bet up to 11.5 points at America's Bookie online sportsbook. The total for this game is currently set at 47 points.
The betting consensus leans towards the Fighting Irish at 57 percent with 56 percent of the public leaning towards the OVER. Virginia has climbed the rankings with a prefect 4-0 start while going 2-1-1 against the spread. However, the Cavaliers' early schedule has been rather soft with lopsided victories against in-state teams such as William & Mary and Old Dominion. As one of the better teams in the watered-down ACC, they will be stepping up in class this Saturday afternoon in South Bend.
Notre Dame is coming off a tough 23-17 loss to Georgia closing as a heavy 16-point road underdog. While many bettors are banking on the Irish bouncing back with a dominating win this week, I do believe that a bitter defeat against the No. 3 team in the nation will linger into this game. Virginia is good enough to keep this game closer than 11 points if the Irish do not bring their A game to Notre Dame Stadium in a slated 3:30 p.m. start on NBC.
As part of a weekly series for the popular sports betting website Scores & Stats, I covered this game as my underdog pick of the week. Please click through the link below for my complete game preview.

NFL Week 3 Betting Pick- Dolphins at Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys' fast 2-0 start has impressed the Oddsmakers to the point where they are prohibitive 22.5-point home favorites at most online sportsbooks for Sunday's 1 p.m. inter-conference tilt against the 0-2 Miami Dolphins. A good part of this inflated spread can also be attributed to just how bad the Dolphins have played in their first two games.
The big question heading into this matchup is twofold. First, is Dallas really as good as everyone thinks? Next, is Miami truly as bad as its performance against Baltimore and New England where the Dolphins were outscored 102-10? My guess is no for both questions. The Cowboys are a good team, but it also helped that they faced the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins as part of that 2-0 start. Each of these NFC East opponents is also in the running for a very high draft pick next April.
As part of my NFL coverage for the new sports betting site BettingOdds.com, I broke down this matchup to come up with a "best bet" pick. Three- touchdown spreads are rare at the pro level. That many points can be too tempting to turn down, but you get the feeling that Miami will need them all to cover. Please click through the link below to go to my BettingOdds.com full game preview and free betting pick.

College Football Pac-12 'Pick of the Week'
The Pac-12 was the forgotten major conference in 2018 with just two teams ranking in the final College Football Playoff Top 25. The highest-ranked team on that list was the Washington State Cougars at No. 10. Through the first three weeks of this season, the Pac-12 is back on track with six teams ranked in the latest AP Top 25. The Utah Utes top the list at No. 10 with the Cougars holding down the 19th spot at 3-0.
They will put their unbeaten streak on the line this Saturday night against the UCLA Bruins, who have gone in the opposite direction at 0-3. The Oddsmakers at America's Bookie online sportsbook have Washington State listed as 19-point home favorite for Saturday night's late 10:30 p.m. (ET) start on ESPN.
As part of my college football coverage for a brand new sports betting site, BettingOdds.com, I covered this Pac-12 matchup with a complete game preview and betting pick. Please click through the link below to find out how I see this matchup playing out.
